WASHINGTON — (WMAL) The D.C. streetcar project has been little more than a pipe dream, facing years of development problems and missed deadlines. However, the D.C. transportation chief says this dream may finally become a reality.
Leif Dormsjo said the hope still is to have the long-delayed streetcar project up and running by the end of the year.
Dormsjo told the Washington Post that the “facts on the ground” will determine when the streetcars will actually begin running. Sorry to say, he says more delays are still possible.
But Dorsmjo told the Post he would rather the streetcar system open “safely and responsibly” than disappoint future passengers by tooting “Coming soon!” with no delivery on the promise.
Dormsjo took the job of transportation director back in January of this year.
