WASHINGTON — (WMAL) If Hurricane Joaquin hits Ocean City, they won’t be caught off guard. The city’s Emergency Services department has started pre-storm preparations.
“The uncertainty that’s built into this storm is still something that we’re keeping a close eye at, but we’re gonna be ready for anything in terms of the effects. Before the close of business on Friday we should have all of our protective actions in place, and we’ll be ready for the storm,” said Emergency Services Director Joe Theobald.
Preparation includes closing the gates in case there’s a storm surge and taking garbage cans and other things off the boardwalk that could be thrown around in the wind. The department is also making sure it’s set up to communicate with the public.
Theoald said Ocean City residents should also make sure they familiarize themselves with evacuation routes and stock up on emergency supplies in case they lose pay.
