WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Meteorologists don’t yet know exactly where Hurricane Joaquin is heading, but it will make for a miserable weekend in the DMV.
“We are expecting a very heavy rain even this weekend with about 5 to 10 inches of rain expected across the area,” said meteorologist Dan Hoffman with the National Weather Service.
Whether the DMV will get heavy winds and storm surge will depend on the exact track of the hurricane, which Hoffman said they will be able to figure in the next two days.
The worst case scenario would be if Joaquin makes landfall in southeast Virginia, which could bring coastal flooding, storm surge and damaging winds to the area. In the past, Alexandria, Georgetown and Annapolis have been flooded by bad storms.
