5am – A/B/C GOP DEBATE RECAP: How Did The Candidates Rate?
- Donald Trump, Carly Fiorina Tangle in Scrappy Second GOP Debate. The former Hewlett-Packard CEO established herself as a looming threat to the GOP front-runner. Donald Trump muscled his way through the second Republican presidential debate with his trademark bravado, eschewing specifics on foreign policy questions and taunting his opponents with personal barbs, while also drawing heavier fire from rivals who are feeling a greater urgency to halt his astonishing rise. But it was Carly Fiorina who delivered the standout performance Wednesday evening, composing crisp, commanding answers and tangling with the reality show star front-runner with poise over the course of the draining three-hour event.rump remained the star of the show, but Fiorina became a sterling co-star, portending a future threat to The Donald’s dominance over the GOP field. Other candidates – including Jeb Bush, Sen. Rand Paul and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker – also sought to strike back at Trump, but the inclusion of 11 hopefuls on the stage and Trump’s willingness to blast back with scathing insults made it difficult for any of them to gain momentum.
5am – D/E Handcuffed for Making Clock, Ahmed Mohamed, 14, Wins Time With Obama. (NY Times) — HOUSTON — Ahmed Mohamed’s homemade alarm clock got him suspended from his suburban Dallas high school and detained and handcuffed by police officers on Monday after school officials accused him of making a fake bomb. By Wednesday, it had brought him an invitation to the White House, support from Hillary Rodham Clinton and Mark Zuckerberg, and a moment of head-spinning attention as questions arose whether he had been targeted because of his name and his religion.

- Eight Important Facts You Need to Know for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s Article 32 Hearing Prior to a Court-Martial. (Cully Stimson/The Signal) — The Army will hold an Article 32 hearing for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl this week at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. The hearing, which may take a few days, is standard for all military court-martials where felony charges have been preferred against the accused, unless the accused chooses to waive the hearing. Sgt. Bergdahl has not waived his right to an Article 32, and therefore it will take place this week in a military courtroom in Texas.
6am – E Hillary News:
- Hillary Clinton interviewed by Fallon’s Trump on ‘Tonight Show.’ Hillary Clinton came to New York to be interviewed by Donald Trump — or at least Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon pretending to be Trump. In her first late-night appearance as a 2016 presidential candidate, Clinton sat for a pretend interview with Fallon during an opening Tonight Show bit. Fallon wore a blonde wig like Trump’s signature coif while holding a gold phone. He asked Clinton about her position on women’s issues, quoting Clinton recently saying Trump “insults” and “dismisses” women. “I am curious, Donald, what is your stance on women’s issues?’’ Clinton asked. “Look, I know a lot of women and they all have issues,” Fallon’s Trump said. The interview is part of an effort by Clinton to show a more relaxed and relatable side to voters as her poll ratings slide amid a drumbeat of negative press coverage over her use of a private email server. Last week, Clinton also visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The interview will air tonight. A one point, Fallon’s Trump told Clinton that she “sounded like a robot.” He also tried to offer Clinton campaign advice. “Hold on, let me grab my pen,” Clinton said as she reached for a glass of white wine and rolled her eyes.
- So far, Colbert is losing late-night ratings war to Fallon. Colbert scored a huge debut, but Fallon won the rest of the week. And some predict that’s the way it will continue. Colbert’s new show debuted last Tuesday night with a premiere that featured actor George Clooney and Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush as guests, garnering ratings that crushed the late-night competition. Colbert’s first show attracted 6.5 million viewers, according to ratings service Nielsen. Past Tuesday, though, Fallon’s “Tonight Show” reclaimed the late-night dominance it’s shown for more than a year with the comedian at the helm. Nielsen’s numbers show that Fallon averaged 4.3 million viewers per night Wednesday through Friday, while Colbert averaged 3.7 million viewers on those days and Kimmel pulled in 2 million sets of eyeballs per night. The last night of last week was Fallon’s biggest, with the host welcoming firebrand billionaire and Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump to the tune of 4.5 million viewers.

7am – D/E Handcuffed for Making Clock, Ahmed Mohamed, 14, Wins Time With Obama. As a result, a 14-year-old freshman at MacArthur High School in Irving, Tex., who is partial to tinkering, technology and NASA T-shirts and wants to go to M.I.T., found himself in a social media whirlwind that reflected the nation’s charged debates on Islam, immigration and ethnicity. “Cool clock, Ahmed,” President Obama said on Twitter. “Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great.” Mr. Obama’s staff invited Ahmed to the White House for Astronomy Night on Oct. 19, an event bringing together scientists, engineers, astronauts, teachers and students to spend a night stargazing from the South Lawn.
