5am – A/B/C GOP War of Insults: After insulting Fiorina, Trump tested by wave of criticism. WASHINGTON (AP) — A wave of criticism from Republicans and Democrats alike rose Thursday after GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump insulted the physical appearance of Carly Fiorina, his party’s only female White House contender. It’s a new test for the candidacy of the brash-talking Trump, whose standing in opinion polls has surged despite a series of comments that might well have doomed a traditional politician. Republican Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal called Trump “a madman,” while Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton said the billionaire real-estate mogul “seems to delight in insulting women every chance he gets.” Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush dismissed Trump’s latest comments as “small and inappropriate.” And Fiorina, the target of Trump’s latest insult, suggested she was “getting under his skin.” In some ways, Thursday was a day no different from others in an unpredictable 2016 presidential primary campaign, a messy contest in which Trump has emerged as a dominant and divisive figure. But the day also featured an escalation of criticism from Trump’s detractors in both parties, who seem be multiplying. The spark was an interview published Wednesday by Rolling Stone, in which Trump said Fiorina’s face would make her unelectable. The magazine quoted Trump as saying of the former technology executive: “Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?”
5am – D DRIVE AT FIVE INTERVIEW: LOUDOUN COUNTY SHERIFF MICHAEL CHAPMAN – discussed the death of a Loudoun teen killed by illegals. Three illegal immigrants are facing charges after the shooting death of a 17-year old on his way to school in Loudoun County, Virginia last week. According to The Washington Post, Danny Centeno-Miranda, a teen from El Salvador living with relatives in the D.C. suburb, was shot twice in the back on Friday about 50 yards from his bus stop. Centeno-Miranda later died of the injuries at Inova Fairfax Hospital.
5am – E Brian Williams’ MSNBC Debut Set for September 22. Former NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams will return from his suspension and into his new role at MSNBC on September 22, the network tells The Hollywood Reporter. Williams will anchor live breaking news that day, which is expected to include coverage of the U.S. visit of Pope Francis. In August, MSNBC set the Pope’s visit as a “tentative target date” for Williams’ arrival at the network, with his ultimate role described as having no set timeslot but “working daytime hours on busy news days.” MSNBC’s schedule has begun to take shape since then, with Chuck Todd moving into a weekday role and Kate Snow reported to be joining the dayside lineup.
Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake beat Stephen Colbert’s Late Show ratings. Jimmy Fallon Reclaims Late-Night Crown; Stephen Colbert Delivers Big Year-Over-Year Gains. The competition between Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show” and Jimmy Fallon’s “Tonight Show” intensified on the second night of Colbert’s run. “Tonight Show” reclaimed the top spot in total viewers and adults 18-49 after dropping to No. 2 on Tuesday against the heat of “The Late Show’s” premiere push. “The Tonight Show” averaged 4.06 million viewers on Wednesday and a 1.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic. “The Late Show” delivered 3.66 million viewers and a 0.8 in adults 18-49. That compared to 6.6 million viewers for Tuesday’s debut.
6am – A/B/C Losing a pet is a tragic thing. Having them cloned is just creepy. Cloned Pugs Are Creepy, Not Cute. (Daily Beast) — The Sooam Company promises to extend the ‘lifespan’ of your dog through cloning. Problem is, cloning doesn’t cover personality, memory, or the ‘nurture’ part of the nature vs. nurture equation. Are you grieving the loss of a pet? For $100,000 the Sooam Company will be happy to clone you a new one. From its website: “Dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years. They have been our protectors and friends; however, an average lifespan of a dog is about 10-15 years, much shorter than that of a human being. Sooam Biotech Research Foundation is able to prolong the companionship with your dog by bringing back the memories that you have with your friend. Cloning technology is possible at Sooam for any dog no matter its age, size, and breed. Sooam not only performs dog cloning research, but we also heal the broken hearts.”

6am – E Buzzfeed Slams Police Officers in Awkward Video. (Newsbusters) – There’s nothing worse than when a fun site takes itself too seriously. That’s what happens when Buzzfeed, the site aimed at millennials for it’s nostalgia-inducing gifs and listicles, ‘weighs in’ on divisive social issues. The results are as groan-worthy as you’d expect by a site ran by 20-something hipsters. Just look at Buzzfeed’s more recent videos like the conservative Christian-bashing, “I’m a Christian, But I’m Not” (“homophobic,” “close minded,” “conservative”) to get an idea of how Buzzfeed presents one end of the spectrum and passes it off as representative of the group as a whole. Another video released three days ago called, “Men Try On a Police Uniform” is receiving similar backlash on social media for it’s one-note tune. The video is as simple as it sounds: a handful of young guys put on a full police officer uniform and comment on what they see, looking at their reflection. Out of that experience comes out a pretty negative view of law enforcement. “Honestly I see jerk before I see hero,” one man lamented. “And that sucks,” he added.
Police officers charged in Freddie Gray case to be tried in Baltimore. A Baltimore Circuit Court judge ruled Thursday that the trials of six police officers charged in the arrest and death of Freddie Gray will stay in Baltimore, saying the defense had failed to prove that the officers cannot receive a fair trial in the city. Judge Barry Williams said it was premature to conclude the jury pool was tainted, and that potential jurors should be first screened. His comments left open the possibility that the trial could still be moved if that process is unsuccessful. “The citizens of Baltimore are not monolithic,” Williams said in his ruling. “They think for themselves.” Prosecutors have said they intend to first try Officer William Porter, who is charged with manslaughter, assault, misconduct and reckless endangerment, and court records show a tentative trial date of Oct. 13. Any of the officers could also elect to bypass a jury trial and have Williams decide their fate.

7am – B 2016 News:
- On “The Late Show,” Biden says he’s unsure he can commit fully to be president. In a moving interview with comedian Stephen Colbert on Thursday night, Vice President Joe Biden suggested he is not yet emotionally prepared to run for president in 2016, as he is still reeling from the death of his son earlier this summer. “I don’t think any man or woman should run for president unless, number one, they know exactly why they would want to be president and, number two, they can look at folks out there and say, ‘I promise you, you have my whole heart, my whole soul, my energy, and my passion to do this,'” Biden told the Colbert, who recently took the helm of on CBS’ “The Late Show” from longtime host David Letterman. “And I’d be lying if I said that I knew I was there,” Biden continued.
- Bernie Sanders ‘stunned’ by his rapid rising in the polls. Count Bernie Sanders as someone who is surprised by Bernie Sanders’ rapid ascent in the polls. “Yes, I’m stunned,” Sanders said in an interview Thursday afternoon with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on “Wolf.” “Look, we have a message that I believed from day one was going to resonate with the American people.” The independent, self-described democratic socialist senator from Vermont edged Clinton 41 percent to 40 percent in a Quinnipiac poll of Iowa Democrats released Thursday morning. That favorable result came days after an NBC News/Marist poll showed him beating Clinton in New Hampshire, 48 percent to 37 percent.
- Earnest vs. FNC’s James Rosen: Clinton’s Use Of Private Email Just Like Email System At FOX News. Rosen confronted Earnest on when President Obama found out Clinton used a personal e-mail and also hosted a private server. Earnest, as he has done previously, acknowledge Obama knew about the e-mail address, but likened the e-mail system to what FOX News uses for their employees. “The president told my CBS News colleague Bill Plante that he became aware of this only when everyone else did,” Rosen said. “Well, now you’re asking me about the e-mail server situation, and I think that most people, myself included, are aware of the e-mail address of many people but I’m not aware of, for example, of what the arrangement FOX News has set up for FOX News e-mail addresses,” Earnest replied. “FOX News’ e-mail system is not at issue here,” Rosen responded. “I think you understand that.”

7am – C Alleged #BlackLivesMatter Leader To Teach ‘Leadership’ At Yale. (Daily Caller/Betsy Rothstein)- DeRay Mckesson, who has been described as a leader in the #BlackLivesMatter movement, is heading to Yale Divinity School to teach a one-credit course about “transformational leadership.” A writeup by Campus Reform’s Peter Hasson reports that Mckesson will serve as a “guest lecturer” and will teach a course specially called “Transformational Leadership in the #BlackLivesMatter Movement.” The syllabus will include the following: Reading material for the course will consist of Ta-Nehisi Coates’s book “Between the World and Me,” a Huffington Post article titled “How The Black Lives Matter Movement Changed the Church,” author Derrick Bell’s book “Silent Covenants: Brown v. Board of Education and the Unfilled Hopes for Racial Reform,” Leah Gunning Francis’ book “Ferguson & Faith: Sparking Leadership and Awakening Community,” and a New York Times article titled “Our Demand Is Simple: Stop Killing Us.”
No Joke: #BlackLivesMatter Crowd Is Angry at ‘#FearTheWalkingDead’ (Patheos) — I’m not making this up. For those Walking Dead fanatics who are also watching the new series “Fear the Walking Dead” (you all should!), there’s a new controversy about which you might want to know. Apparently the #BlackLivesMatter crowd is upset that three of the early deaths on the series’ first couple of episodes are black. Yes, several white drug users and homeless people are also killed, but the black activists are saying that the show is “racist.”

7am – E Democrats Hand Victory to Obama on Iran Nuclear Deal. WASHINGTON — Senate Democrats delivered a major victory to President Obama when they blocked a Republican resolution to reject a six-nation nuclear accord with Iran on Thursday, ensuring the landmark deal will take effect without a veto showdown between Congress and the White House. A procedural vote fell two short of the 60 needed to break a Democratic filibuster. It culminated hours of debate in the Senate and capped weeks of discord since the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China announced the agreement with Iran in July. The debate divided Democrats between their loyalties to the president and to their constituents, animated the antiwar movement on the left and exposed the diminishing power of the Israeli lobbying force that spent tens of millions of dollars to prevent the accord.

8am – E America to mark 14th anniversary of September 11, 2001 attacks. (Fox News) — From New York City to Shanksville, Pa., from the White House to baseball stadiums around the nation, America will pause once again Friday to mark the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people. The largest ceremony will take place at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum near the site of the World Trade Center’s twin towers, which were brought down when two hijacked passenger jets slammed into them that day. Families of the victims will gather at the memorial’s plaza for what has become a tradition of tolling bells, observing moments of silence, and reading the names of those who died. The Flight 93 National Memorial near Shanksville in western Pennsylvania is marking the completion of its visitor center, which opened to the public Thursday. At the Pentagon, Secretary of Defense Ash Carter and other officials will join in remembrances for victims’ relatives and Pentagon employees. President Obama is scheduled to observe a moment of silence with the first lady and White House staff on the mansion’s South Lawn before visiting Fort Meade in Maryland, in recognition of the military’s work to protect the country.
