BALTIMORE — (WMAL) Insurance companies in Maryland have paid nearly $13 million in claims related to the Baltimore riots earlier this year.

After the alleged police killing of Freddie Gray in April, rioters and looters destroyed businesses and vehicles around the city.

445 commercial claims were placed before the submission deadline, accounting for $11.6 million of the accounted damage.

$1.3 million in claims were placed for non-commercial damage, including personal property claims.

The Maryland Insurance Administration reported the claims, citing information submitted by insurance companies before a July 27th deadline.
