GAITHERSBURG, MD — (WMAL) When the Montgomery County Fair opens at 3 p.m. on Friday there will be plenty of activities for attendees to enjoy.

Organizer Lindsey Strachan said that the fair will feature acrobats, monster trucks and performances by popular local bands.

There will also be a variety of food options ranging from traditional “fried everything” carnival food to restaurant food trucks.

Contests will take place on the fairgrounds throughout the week.

“We have a scavenger hunt contest where people will be going all around the grounds trying to find different things,” Strachan said.

“We have toilet-decorating contests and amateur flower contests where people will take flowers and put them into arrangements.”

Perhaps the strangest sight at the fair will be the “toilet-decorating contest” where participants will decorate old ceramic toilets with paint and props.

It’s been a fair staple for the last decade.

Animal shows at the fair will feature chickens, as the fair is happening before the avian flu deadline set by the state.

However, water fowl will not make an appearance at the fair.

Because of the increased risk of avian flu, anyone who comes into contact with farm animals is advised to wash their hands immediately.

The fair will run from August 14th to August 22nd.
