GAINESVILLE, VA — (WMAL) More than 100,000 people will descend on Gainesville this week for Tiger Woods’ annual event, the Quicken Loans golf tournament, which is moving this year to the Robert Trent Jones course from its traditional home at the Congressional Country Club in Potomac.
Woods is having a disastrous year himself on the golf course, but his name still carries tremendous weight with golf fans. Organizers claim the tournament will generate 20 million dollars in revenue for the local economy.
“People will be going to our restaurants, stopping and using our retail locations, and obviously using our lodging that’s out here,” says Prince William Chamber of Commerce President Debbie Jones. “It’s really just going to enhance the business growth and economic development, and kind of show off the quality of life that we do have here in Prince William and Manassas and Manassas Park,” she added.
This year’s tournament will be the first pro event hosted at RTJ since 2005, when the Presidents Cup was last played at the course. Adult tickets range from 10 dollars for Tuesday’s practice rounds to 35 dollars for the final two rounds Saturday and Sunday. Tickets for kids are 10 dollars throughout the event. Next year, the tournament will return to Congressional, followed by TPC Potomac at Avenel in 2017.
