At her appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Tuesday, District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser said that she’s committed to the construction of the Trump Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue.
“We are calling on the federal government to make sure that that hotel gets developed on time,” Bowser said.
The D.C. mayor’s support for the hotel comes at a controversial time for properties owned by Donald Trump in Washington and around the country.
Trump said that his hotel would be located on the “best site in Washington” at a Baltimore press conference earlier this month.
Since then, he’s made multiple controversial statements about immigrants as well as a more recent attack on GOP mainstay John McCain.
Bowser was not pleased with Trump’s comments but recognizes the importance of his hotel to the Washington economy.
“That hotel is very important to how we revitalize our main street, Pennsylvania Avenue,” Bowser said.
“I wish that Donald Trump wasn’t saying some of the pretty horrible things that he said recently.”
