WASHINGTON — The 23rd annual Safeway National Capital Barbeque Festival kicks off this Saturday, featuring over 50 chefs from around the country.
Event producer Allen Tubis said that a wide variety of barbeque foods would be available at the event, including ribs and pulled-pork sandwiches.
“The contest is all closed out, but people can enjoy picking up great recipes and tips,” Tubis said.
There will also be a number of event and advertising booths, run mostly by nonprofit organizations.
Events include a USO cookoff between the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard and presentations by national cookbook authors.
Tubis said that the event would happen rain or shine, and that the venue would have tented seating areas if it rains.
“People are cooking off, and they’re going to be there regardless,” Tubis said, “Our whole sampling pavilion is under a giant 300 foot-long tent.”
The Festival runs from 11am-9pm on June 27th and 11am-7:30pm on June 28th, and tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
