Annapolis, MD – Gov. Larry Hogan announced that the state will continue with the planned Purple Line rail system.

He said the state will contribute $168 million instead of nearly $700 million.

Neither Prince George’s nor Montgomery Counties have yet agreed to Gov. Hogan’s revised Purple Line plan.

He also requested that the counties of Prince George’s and Montgomery increase their investments in the Purple Line project, as the counties have “the most to gain from the Purple Line.” The total cost is estimated to be $2.45 billion.

No definite plan is yet set, but Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett said he is prepared to discuss future plans. “I am prepared to sit down and negotiate something that I think is in the best interest both in the state and communities here in Montgomery County.”

He said the Baltimore light-rail project called the Red Line will not move forward. He said, “We can do better” about the $2.64 billion proposal. It would have connected Woodlawn in Baltimore City and downtown Baltimore.
