FAIRFAX (WMAL) — The cat kennels at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter are completely full so the shelter is looking to the community to adopt the cats and kittens.
Summer is usually a busy season for the shelter, but the cages filled this week after a heavy intake year and the housing of animals involved in an Animal Control investigation.
“You know if you’re adopting now, you’re truly saving a life because we are facing a critical space issue,” said Kristen Auerbach, the shelter’s interim director.
There are currently 168 cats, and adoption fees are temporarily cut in half.
People needing to surrender their cats are asked to wait until space opens up.
The shelter will not euthenize cats to make space, but are looking to other shelters and the community to house some of the animals.
