WASHINGTON (WMAL) — A man who flew a gyrocopter through restricted airspace at the Capitol building has rejected a plea offer in his case.
Douglas Hughes said he rejected the offer that included significant jail time because it wasn’t just for an act of civil disobedience which did not injure anyone, according to the Associated Press.
Hughes, 61, landed his gyrocopter on the Capitol’s West Lawn on April 15 to protest big money in politics. His flight violated multiple no-fly zone policies.
He appeared in court Monday morning for a status hearing. Hughes said his case is now likely to go to trial.
