OCEAN CITY (WMAL) — Street performers have a new set of rules for putting on a show on Ocean City’s boardwalk.
Performers will have to shut down their productions at 1 a.m., avoid using props over 5 feet tall and sign up to reserve their spots each week.
The City Council voted unanimously to institute the new policies to decongest the boardwalk and make it a more enjoyable experience for visitors.
Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan said it’s a good way to allow pedestrians, performers and businesses to share the boardwalk.
However, some performers think the rules are too strict, arguing that they’ll be prevented from performing late into the night even though bars and restaurants can keep the music playing past 2 a.m.
