WASHINGTON (WMAL) — The man who jumped the White House fence last September before he was tackled in the East Room will be spending a few more months in prison.

Omar Gonazalez was sentenced today to 17 months in prison plus three years supervised probation.

Judge Rosemary Collyer made clear her top priority was making sure Gonzales receives the mental health treatment he needs.

Collyer recommended that Gonzalez be transferred to a prison in California, where his father lives, until he is released.

The defense said Gonzalez had the resources to travel to California if he were released Tuesday, but the judge disagreed.

With time already served, he will be out of prison this December.

Gonzalez apologized to the court, saying he holds himself accountable and he will be continuing with his mental health treatment.
