WASHINGTON — Animal control officials are warning residents in a Fairfax County neighborhood about an aggressive raccoon that bit a woman on Wednesday. Officers were called out around 9:30 a.m., June 10 after a 75-year-old woman was charged by the raccoon near the South Run Rec Center in Springfield, Virginia. The woman was walking along a paved path near the overpass for Lee Chapel Road at the time she was attacked. She had stopped to take a photograph of the animal. She was taken to the hospital with bites on her leg, hands and forearms.
- Goat on the Loose in Montgomery County. (NBC DC) – A goat who apparently strayed from home is the talk of Germantown and Clarksburg, Maryland. The goat was spotted about 6 p.m. Wednesday roaming free along busy I-355 in Clarksburg, which is a six-lane road in parts. D.C. resident Lisa Young saw the animal from her car and tried to warn it to get out of the street. “I honked and screamed like crazy at him to scare him out of oncoming traffic,” she said.
- Cruel men throw cat into crocodile-infested waters and LAUGH when it gets eaten. Horrific video shows moment helpless cat is thrown into a crocodile-infested lagoon by laughing men to be eaten alive. (Daily Mail) — Shocking footage from Peru shows the moment a small cat is deliberately thrown into a murky lagoon full of vicious crocodiles. Two men can be heard laughing as someone launches the cat out of a bag into the water, which is surrounded by high fences. The reptiles quickly close in on the animal as it frantically swims past them and onto a small area of dry land. The cat seems to have pulled off a miraculous escape when it climbs onto the bamboo fencing but here, it tragically runs out of energy. One of the crocodiles pounces on the exhausted animal and pulls its back in by its tail. The cat makes yet another break for it when a second reptile tries to wrestle the first over its carcass, but unfortunately it does not get far before it is again attacked and killed. Thousands of people have condemned the cruel and senseless act in the city of Iquitos after watching the video, which has since gone viral.
5am – E Iraq News:
- White House authorizes up to 450 additional troops in Iraq. (CNN) — Washington (CNN)President Barack Obama’s administration is planning to train Sunni tribes’ fighters as part of its move to send up to 450 additional U.S. forces to Iraq, the White House said Wednesday. The United States is also sending weapons to Sunni tribes, as well as the Kurdish Peshmerga fighters, who are operating under Iraqi command, in order to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. The hope, an Obama administration official said, is that a new “Sunni uprising” similar to one that took place in 2013 will occur – but this time, aimed at Islamic State fighters.

6am – A/B/C Zoe Saldana Defends Her Husband Taking Her Last Name: ‘I Feel Proud’ (MSN) — Zoe Saldana was the first to admit that she was hesitant when her husband, Italian artist Marco Perego, told her he wanted to take her last name. Now she says she’s never been more proud of her babies’ daddy’s unconventional decision. “I tried to talk him out of it,” the 36-year-old actress confessed to InStyle magazine. “I told him, ‘If you use my name, you’re going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world.'” Her husband reacted, “Marco looks up at me and says, ‘Ah, Zoe, I don’t give a s—.'” Feeling that her quotes to the publication may have been taken wrong, Zoe took to her Facebook on Tuesday to encourage husbands to consider taking their wives’ last names instead of the reverse.
6am – D PLANES:
- Boeing plans to add more seats by shrinking bathroom. USA Today) Airplane bathrooms and some London hotel rooms might be the only places where you can sit on a toilet, touch two walls with your kneecaps and wash your hands at the same time. But those onboard lavatories – which are currently about as spacious as a birdbath – are about to get even smaller. The engineers at Boeing (who are possibly sadistic but definitely not incontinent) have discovered that by shrinking the size of the lavatories, they can fit as many as 14 additional seats onto the newest 777-300ER. Well, as cramped and uncomfortable as that sounds – in every way – at least Boeing isn’t taking the easyJet-and-Airbus route and removing a bathroom entirely.
- Airline industry says carry-on bags should be smaller. (USA Today) — Millions of fliers could have to buy new luggage if an airline industry recommendation for smaller carry-on bags takes hold. The trade group that represents most of the world’s big airlines issued the recommendationTuesday, calling it part of an “initiative to optimize the accommodation of carry-on bags.” A standard maximum allowance for carry-on bags would streamline restrictions that currently vary by airline. A carry-on allowed by one airline, for example, could be stopped at the gate by another. But IATA’s “optimal cabin bag size” recommendation also calls for most airlines to trim the size of the bags they currently allow. In addition to standardizing the process, IATA says doing so “means … theoretically everyone should have a chance to store their carry-on bags on board aircraft of 120 seats or larger.”
6am – E 2016 News:
- Michelle Kwan joins Clinton campaign as paid staffer. (CNN) Michelle Kwan, the two-time Olympic medalist figure skater, has joined Hillary Clinton’s campaign as a full-time and permanent staffer, according to a Clinton aide. Kwan will work on surrogate outreach and will engage surrogates “to help reach key constituencies and discuss the issues that matter most to working families,” the aide said Wednesday. Kwan won medals in the 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics and was a five-time world champion figure skater.
- Hillary Clinton’s Hard Choice: Her First Instagram Post. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s first post on Instagram isn’t a picture of her on the campaign trail or of supporters gathered at a house party. It’s a play on her memoir, “Hard Choices.” The “hard choice” in this case? What to wear. The photo features a rack full of red, white and blue jackets of the pants suits Mrs. Clinton is known for. The clothes hang in front of a sunny window presumably in Mrs. Clinton’s home in Chappaqua, N.Y. A needlepoint pillow and oil painting appear in the background.
- Jeb: Putin is a ‘bully’ and the US should say ‘here are the consequences of your actions’. BERLIN (Reuters) – Likely Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush said on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin was a “bully” and the United States and its allies in Europe should be resolute in responding to Russian aggression. Bush, the brother of former U.S. President George W. Bush, is on a five-day tour of Europe in a bid to prove his foreign policy credentials before he is expected to launch his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination next week.
7am – A/B Herndon High to Students: Stop Ordering Food Delivery. (WTOP) – As Jeff Spicoli said to teacher Mr. Hand when his pizza was delivered in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, “What’s wrong with a little snack on our time?” Apparently, enough to ask Herndon High School students to cut it out. The end of the school year has seen a rise in the number of students and teachers ordering food to be delivered to the school. It is causing front-office stress to the administration, which has asked everyone to stop. In an email to families, Herndon High administrators reminded parents that food delivery is against Fairfax County Public Schools rules — and that students could get detention.

Niccol said the words are “curated” by a group of employees in their 20s who send out an email every Tuesday or Wednesday. The words are also posted on screens and monitors around the office in Irvine, California. The practice is another illustration of how eager companies are to understand millennials, who marketers say have quirks and traits that separate them from past generations. It’s a demographic that’s particularly important for Taco Bell, which is known for having younger customers who gobble up creations like Dorito-flavored tacos. - John Lennon’s Love Me Do guitar, lost for 50 years, to be auctioned in 2015. (The Guardian) The guitar used to write many of the Beatles’ early hits has been located, and is expected to reach $600,000 and $800,000 at an LA auction house. A guitar once owned by John Lennon – which mysteriously disappeared in 1963 – has been located and will be auctioned in November. Lennon’s 1962 Gibson guitar was used on many of the Beatles’ early hits like Love Me Do, I Want to Hold Your Hand and She Loves You. It went missing in the UK in the early 60s and somehow found its way to San Diego. An amateur guitarist called John McCaw purchased the item for a few hundred dollars in the 1970s, unaware of its heritage, and was only made aware of its similarity to the famous instrument when friends spotted the J-160E Gibson in a book by Andy Babiuk, a Beatles expert who authenticates the band’s memorabilia. It is now estimated to fetch between $600,000 and $800,000 at the auction house, which is in Los Angeles.

Probate court documents filed Tuesday in Las Vegas by a lawyer for Patty King, Karen Williams, Rita Washington and Barbara Winfree stop short of repeating previous allegations that LaVerne Toney and another personal aide, Myron Johnson, poisoned B.B. King. But they allege ahead of a court hearing Friday that Toney — King’s trusted business agent for 39 years who had power of attorney — is unfit to become executor or personal representative of King’s estate.
