ASHBURN, VA — (WMAL) Jamison Crowder has been seen by many as a potential special teams star for the Washington Redskins, but his bright future is now in doubt as both the team and the NFL investigate possible claims of domestic abuse against the wide receiver.
Crowder, who was the Redskins’ fourth round draft pick this spring, had photos posted to his Instagram and Twitter accounts by a woman purporting to be his ex-girlfriend. The photos showed a woman with bruises and a cut lip – injuries she claims were caused by Crowder.
In the post, the woman wrote, “I’ve had things thrown at me, poured on me, ive been choked, had a concussion… The list goes on.” The poster went on to say that because Crowder continued to show that his heart wasn’t with her anymore, she had no reason to protect him.
The Redskins released a statement, saying: “The Washington Redskins are aware of an off-field situation involving Jamison Crowder. We have been in touch with the NFL office and will continue to follow proper League protocol and assist them in any way we can to gather all of the facts. We will not be making any further comment at this time.”
Crowder’s agent told ESPN his client has done nothing wrong. Crowder’s Twitter account has been deleted and the photos no longer appear on his Instagram account. There is no record of any domestic violence involving Crowder in Loudoun County, where Redskins Park is located.
Crowder was a team captain and starting wide receiver at Duke. The Redskins have had him penciled in as potentially being the team’s primary punt and kick returner for the 2015 season.
