WASHINGTON (WMAL) — The Nationals have claimed National League Player and Pitcher of the Month for May, the first time in history the team has received both honors in the same month.
Right fielder Bryce Harper won National League Player of the Month as a home run leader in the MLB. He is tied with Seattle’s Nelson Cruz for most home runs with 18 so far this season.
His batting average for the month of May was .360.
The Nationals’ right-hander Max Scherzer was named National League Pitcher of the Month, going 5-1 with a 1.67 ERA in May.
He threw at least seven innings in all of his six May starts, including a seven-inning shutout against the Cubs on May 27.
MLB made the announcement on Wednesday.
