WASHINGTON (WMAL) – Many Georgetown residents are having a difficult time sleeping as late night and early morning flights arrive and depart from Ronald Reagan National Airport.
“What we have is a catastrophe. Adults and children can’t sleep,” said Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton.
Norton is pushing Congress to prohibit the flights. She doesn’t think discontinuing this service would inconvenience the public.
Thursday she proposed an amendment to an existing appropriation’s bill that would have prohibited federal money from being used to allow flights at DCA between midnight and 6 a.m. On that day, there were 14 departures and nine arrivals at DCA between those times.
“I didn’t expect this first amendment to pass, but I’ve got a lot more tries at ways to stop this airplane noise,” Norton said.
The next step will be adding the prohibition to the FAA’s re-authorization.
