GREAT FALLS, MD — Two swimmers went in, and only one came out. Rescue crews spent Wednesday afternoon searching the Potomac and surrounding shoreline near Great Falls to no avail.
One of the swimmers told police he stayed near the shore. His friend was more adventurous, swimming to the middle of the river, where he went under.
We have coved pretty extensively, using our resources…the helicopter for the air and from the boat and now from the shorelines. We’ve checked the islands, the shorelines, the river south of Great Falls. Again, Purple Beach Area, Sandy Landing area and of course the river area in between and we’ve come up empty handed,” said Pete Piringer with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.
He says they’ll be back Thursday morning to search again.
