WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Authorities have given the all-clear at the United States Capitol, which was evacuated after an audible alarm sounded in the building’s Visitor Center.
Hundreds of people in the center poured out of the complex shortly after 12:30pm Tuesday, spilling onto the East Lawn between the Capitol and the Library of Congress. The Capitol itself was also evacuated.
Reporter Bob Costantini tells WMAL the evacuation was orderly with no sign of panic.
Congress is not in session, and therefore, the building was not as full as it would have been if members had been present.
Capitol officials have not confirmed what kind of alarm sounded in the Capitol Visitors Center.
