WASHINGTON — The man wanted by police for the gruesome murders of four people in a Northwest mansion on May 14 is on the run and may be in Brooklyn, New York. 34-year-old Daron Dylan Wint of Maryland has been charged with first degree murder while armed for allegedly killing 46-year-old Savvas Savopoulos , 47-year-old Amy Savopoulos, 10-year-old Philip Savopoulos and their housekeeper 57-year-old Veralicia Figueroa before setting the Woodland Drive mansion on fire.
DNA on a piece of pizza, believed to have been ordered while the family was being held captive, connected Wint to the crime.
D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier told reporters at a press conference Thursday that officers searched several areas of Prince George’s County, Maryland but didn’t find Wint. The family’s Porsche was found on fire in that county May 14. Now the New York Police Department is helping with the search.
“All of us are focused on finding the perpetrator of this act of evil,” said D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser.
The murder was not random. “He [Wint] did work at American Iron Works in the past,” Lanier said.
Savvas Savopoulos was the CEO of that company, which is located in Hyattsville, Maryland. Police believe Wint held Savvas, his wife, his son and their housekeeper captive in the house for hours for killing them and setting the multi-million dollar house on fire.
Police confirmed that Wint was the man shown running in the widely-circulated security footage.
