LISTEN: Virginia Governor Pushes General Assembly to Expand Medicaid

WASHINGTON–Governor Terry McAuliffe is not finished trying to expand Medicaid in Virginia.

The budget McAuliffe will propose this week makes another push to expand Medicaid to cover 400,000 Virginians under the Affordable Care Act.

But his announcement may be little more than symbolic, since Republicans control both chambers of the General Assembly, and there is no enthusiasm for expanding Medicaid.  

Former Virginia Commonwealth University political scientist Bob Holsworth tells the Washington Post McAuliffe could win points with his liberal base by continuing to pursue Medicaid expansion.
