RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia's governor plans to unveil a package of gun restrictions today.

During a speech in Arlington, Governor Terry McAuliffe will propose to restore Virginia's one-a-month limit on handgun purchases, which was repealed under former Governor Bob McDonnell.
McAuliffe also wants to require that buyers at gun shows be subject to background checks, to prevent people convicted of domestic violence related crimes from owning guns, and to revoke concealed-carry permits for parents behind on their child support payments.
“These are responsible policies that will benefit Virginia’s neighborhoods and families and will create safer environments for our law enforcement officials,” Brian Moran, the secretary of public safety, said in a statement. “By implementing these common-sense measures, Virginia can lead the way on curbing gun violence and can prevent dangerous individuals from illegally obtaining firearms.”
A news release from the Governor's office said McAuliffe is a supporter of the Second Amendment and a gun owner, but these new policies will “prevent dangerous people from stockpiling and trafficking dangerous weapons.”
