GAITHERSBURG, Md. – The investigation into a plane crash along Drop Forge Lane in Gaithersburg is expected to last for the rest of the week. The National Transportation Safety Board says it will need that time to examine the conditions leading up to the crash of a small jet into a home, decimating it and damaging two others.
Thirty-six year old Marie Gemmell and her two sons, one-month-old Devin, and three-year-old Cole were at home and among six people killed in the crash. The other three killed were aboard the jet.
The pilot has been identified as Michael Rosenberg, CEO of Health Decisions based in North Carolina.
Shortly after the crash, a friend of the Gemmell family stepped forward to create a crowdfunding site to raise money for the victim's relatives. What started as a $10,000 goal was revised more than once as donors blew past the original threshold. As of Tuesday morning, a new goal has been set and reached for $100,000. Those donations have come from more than 1500 people .
