WASHINGTON–Shocked by a recent magazine article about a "hidden culture of sexual violence" at the University of Virginia, several lawmakers are taking action.

Three Republican leaders in the House say violent crimes should be addressed by the criminal justice system, not by school officials. They plan to introduce legislation in the upcoming General Assembly session to require university officials to report claims of sexual assault to police and prosecutors.
All three delegates are UVA alumni who have also worked as prosecutors.
