WASHINGTON – Gov.-elect Larry Hogan has just 56 days until his inauguration, preparation for which he told WMAL Wednesday is a “daunting task.”

“It’s a pretty daunting challenge, but I’m pulling together the smartest people I can possibly find,” he said. “We’re all working very hard.”

Hogan not only faces the task of staffing both the governor’s office and his cabinet, but also must prepare a budget to submit to the legislature just two days after he takes office.

The Gov.-elect has already filled two important positions on his cabinet. He promised gubernatorial appointments to Larry as “Crab Cake Czar” and Brian as “Traffic Camera Czar,” telling the hosts they are “eminently qualified” for the two positions.

Gov. O’Malley’s recent actions during his lame duck session have also added to Hogan’s workload. The current Maryland governor has been busy pushing new regulations, contracts, and fee increases. He has proposed 32 new regulations since Election Day.

“It’s unfortunate. We’re just going to have to just get in there and try to see what we can do to review all these things as soon as I’m able to take the reigns.”

That time will come on Jan. 21, when Hogan will be sworn in on the steps of the capitol building in Annapolis. Following the ceremony, the governor will host a “People’s Gala” in Baltimore.

“We’re going to try to make it something that the average person can come to, rather than just a bunch of fat cats.”
