BROOKEVILLE, MD — Three people were shot to death at a home in a rural section of northeastern Montgomery County, in an apparent domestic dispute. The suspect in the case barricaded himself in his home across the street from the murder scene and shot himself as police advance several hours later.

Police received numerous 911 calls at around 3:45 pm for a shooting at a home on Brown Farm Way, a narrow street filled with luxury homes set on large, well-manicured lawns. The home was at the end of a cul de sac.

When police arrived, they found three bodies inside a home, and quickly discovered that three other people had managed to escape from the home unharmed. One of the escapees was the wife of the suspected gunman, 41-year-old Christopher Snyder, who lived across the street.

Officers soon determined that Snyder had fled the murder scene to his own house, and a barricade scene was established. Tactical units were brought in to monitor the home as negotiators spent several hours trying unsuccessfully to coax Snyder out of his home.

At around 11 pm Monday, the tactical squad knocked open the front door of Snyder’s home. Snyder, who was on the phone with negotiators at the time, hung up upon hearing the officers enter, and he promptly shot himself.

Police have remained at Snyder’s home as the investigation continues into the shootings.

Police have not identified the names of the victims.
