WASHINGTON (WMAL) — A former special education teacher in Montgomery County schools pleaded guilty today to possessing child pornography.
Silver Spring resident Peter Flynn, 61, downloaded over 29,000 images and nearly 800 videos of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Flynn and the government agreed that if the court accepts the plea agreement, he’ll be sentenced to between 24 and 78 months in prison.
A sentencing is scheduled for October 19.
Montgomery county schools is in the process of overhauling their child abuse and neglect policy. The school board will vote tonight on a policy that includes expanded background checks and screening for employees, contractors and volunteers.
“MCPS will communicate with parents, will place an employee on administrative leave, and we’ll also be involved with the background checks,” School Board President Patricia O’Neill told WMAL. But the mantra of the proposed updated policy, she says, is, “When in doubt, report it to the county CPS and police.”
